May is always such a glorious month. Flowers are in bloom, leaves are on the trees, everything looks lush and markets are in full swing. Photo opportunities abound!

I had a lot of photo fun this month in the form of two events. On May 7, I joined other camera-carrying moms for 2017 ClickinWalk 2017. Seattle’s took place in the Fremont neighborhood, and there are similar walks all around the world from Spain to New Zealand. It was a picture-perfect day in Seattle, a huge bonus given that over past 8 or so months we’ve been enshrouded in cloud and deluged with record-breaking rain.

May 20 I photographed the Seattle Mom Prom. Seattle moms rocked the house and I had a blast. The energy in the room was incredible and the women were decked out in everything from ball gowns to Doc Martens. You can read more about the Mom Prom in this post I wrote, and you can check out more photos on my Beth Shepherd Photography Facebook business page in my Seattle Mom Prom 2017 album.

I’ve also been trying to motivate myself to step out of my comfort zone and try new photographic techniques, like using Lensbaby lenses. I’ve had several sitting in my drawer and I finally got the courage to spend a bit more time practicing. Just like many of my readers and fellow photographers, I find I’m easily frustrated if a new technique doesn’t turn out like I imagine right out of the gate, even though I know that is never the case with any new skill. My husband, daughter and I went on a walk on Memorial Day and I took my Sweet 35 along for the ride and ended up with a few shots I’m happy with.

Otherwise, it was a month of flowers, gardens, cats and kids….all my favorite things.

      And with that, here’s May:
