I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.

Next to spring, fall is my favorite time of year. The colors, the earthy smells and even the rain (though last winter was just simply too much!). Hillsides glow as the sun creeps lower on the horizon and trees dress in their most colorful attire. I do feel some sadness as my gardening season comes to a close, even though a few tomatoes still cling to the vines and my Dahlias continue to bloom like nobody’s business!

My bird friends become very active and visit us regularly, many of them fattening themselves for their winter migration and others just needing extra fuel as they get ready to hunker down in cold weather. We’ve had flickers, juncos, jays, chickadees, sparrows of several varieties, hummingbirds, towhees, finches in red and gold, bushtits, robins, wrens and occasionally starlings. Some days it’s a regular party in our backyard!

      And with that, here’s October:
